The Milano Plush Velvet Ottoman Bed is a handmade upholstered storage bed frame whose entire mattress platform lifts on gas struts, turning the full footprint of the bed into storage. It is our entry point into velvet ottomans - the same hand-built construction as our premium frames, at the lowest price in the range.
Who it suits
Best for anyone who needs a wardrobe's worth of storage back without adding furniture to the room, and who wants a soft, light-catching finish rather than a flat weave. Because it is the most affordable velvet ottoman bed we make, it is a common choice for guest rooms and second bedrooms as well as main bedrooms. If you prefer a textured, matt finish, look at our teddy bouclé frames instead.

Size pricing: the price shown is for a single (3ft). Small double and double add £69.99, king adds £89.99, super king adds £139.99.

Fabric and upholstery
Every Milano is upholstered by hand. The fabric is worked so that no stitching is visible anywhere on the bed upholstery - the panels read as continuous surfaces rather than seamed sections, which is what gives the frame its clean silhouette. Three fabrics are available: Plush, the short-pile velvet shown here; Naple, a flatter woven finish; and Conniston, a heavier textured weave.
Mattress compatibility
The slatted platform takes any standard UK mattress in the matching size. A mattress is not included. Lighter and medium-weight mattresses make the gas lift easiest to operate; heavier mattresses still work but take more effort to raise. Our pocket sprung and memory foam mattresses are sized to match.
Storage
Because the platform lifts as one piece, the cavity is uninterrupted, so long and awkward items fit whole. That is the practical difference between an ottoman bed and a divan: a divan splits the same area into two or four boxes, so a suitcase or spare duvet that fits an ottoman often will not fit a drawer. Capacity scales with bed size, from roughly 430 litres in a single to the full footprint of a super king.
Assembly
