Bouclé is a looped-yarn fabric with a soft, fleecy, slightly nubbly surface — the texture people describe as "teddy". It has become the defining upholstery of modern bedroom design because it adds warmth to a room without adding colour.

The looped pile is more forgiving of light marks than a flat weave, and the neutral creams sit comfortably alongside oak, rattan and warm white walls. It is a softer, quieter alternative to velvet — less sheen, more texture.
